  • ORBITAL DROP SHOCK DIVISION
      FEET FIRST INTO HELL
The Orbital Drop Shock Troopers, commonly known as ‘ODST,’ is a volunteer force within the UNSC Marine Corps, operationally managed by the Naval Special Weapons (NAVSPECWEP) division. ODST personnel are aggressively screened, and their brutal training program generally weeds out all but a handful of candidates. UNSC Marine Corps. is focused on lording over other clans, The ODST's as a rapid reaction force take it one step further. Becoming the best as a lineup of raiders for taking bases and subduing enemies tactful, with precision and ferocity.

ODST are named and known for their notable method of deployment, a process called “transorbital support interdiction.” Much like paratroopers of centuries past, ODST are inserted directly from orbit into combat behind enemy lines. From here, the ODST are capable of cutting off supplies and communication, while also actively flanking the enemy if necessary. Taking this knowledge from the lore to apply to video games to the best of our abilities, ONI has decided that its best action honoring such activities is indeed in Raids. Scheduled or by Surprise it's uncontested that ODSTs can fulfill the roles they served by dropping behind enemy lines to establish foothold on enemy locations.

  • FIELD GRADE OFFICERS
In the inception of the ODST Ranking structure, it was decided to cap the ODST's at the (O6) Colonel rank. This decision was made following what we know of the current psychology of the ODST's in leadership and spirit. The Colonel rank is the last field-grade officer before general officers. A field-grade officer is an Army, Marine, or Air Force commissioned officer senior in rank to a company officer but junior to a general officer.

ODST officers lead from the front and command their troops with acts of bravery and combat proficiency, as most ODSTs are not impressed by authority wielded without competence, nor are they cowed by threats of administrative punishment. UNSC Insertion Protocols dictate that the commanding officer's SOEIV should accelerate after an ODST unit is deployed, thus placing it before the rest of the unit's drop pods. This is due to the strongly held belief—among the ODSTs—that officers should lead their troopers into battle, rather than follow. It is also held that officers should be willing to do anything they would ask their subordinates to do, and should expose themselves to the same level of danger as their troopers.

Leaders among ODST ranks who can successfully control their subordinates are often rare to find and highly valued, yet the high degrees of danger that ODSTs are exposed to on their missions mean the life expectancy for ODST officers is demoralizingly short. Though they accept the grim statistics, ODSTs are immensely proud of the fact that most of their officers rose from within the ranks, inspired by the heroism and sacrifice of preceding officers, and willing to serve despite the dangers they often face. ODSTs occasionally give tattoos of the kanji symbol for either "bastard" or "bad ass"—as the meaning differs depending on who is asked—to officers they greatly respect. Allegedly, should the tattooed individual reveal their mark to any ODST, the ODST would unhesitatingly aid that person
